History of Fuente del Fresno, Madrid
Fuente del Fresno was a village in the town of Madrid, founded in 1500. Later, on February 3, 1502, it was renamed Villanueva de Fuente el Fresno, a name that eventually changed until it ended up being called Fuente del Fresno. Its inhabitants came from the village of Villanueva, on the left bank of the Viñuelas creek, where it leads into the Jarama river.
The town grew and came to have its own mayor, police station and jail. But in the middle of the eighteenth century it began to depopulate and in the census of 1802 only 13 neighbors remained. Its last three inhabitants left in the late twenties.
Twenty-four years later, eleven parcels were acquired to form the urbanization of Fuente del Fresno. In 1954 the area was developed by the promoter Fuente del Fresno, S.A. and in 1957 development was continued with the Association of Homeowners.
